Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series History

The Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series, also known as the FJ80, was first introduced in 1990 as a replacement for the 60 Series. It was sold until 1997, when it was replaced by the 100 Series Land Cruiser.

The Land Cruiser 80 Series was available in a variety of models, including the standard Land Cruiser, the GX, the VX, and the VX Limited. It was offered with two engine options: a 4.0-liter inline-six petrol engine, and a 4.2-liter inline-six diesel engine.

One of the most notable features of the Land Cruiser 80 Series was its use of coil springs instead of the traditional leaf springs used in previous Land Cruiser models. This allowed for a smoother ride and better handling on the road, while still maintaining off-road capability.

The Land Cruiser 80 Series also featured full-time four-wheel drive, a locking center differential, and a low-range transfer case, making it a highly capable off-road vehicle.

Over the years, the Land Cruiser 80 Series underwent several updates and improvements, including the addition of front and rear locking differentials, a more powerful 4.5-liter petrol engine, and various interior and exterior cosmetic changes.

Today, the Land Cruiser 80 Series is highly regarded among off-road enthusiasts and collectors, thanks to its legendary durability, off-road capabilities, and classic design.
